About

I love food and cooking and I find it extremely difficult to find vegetarian food that isn't wack ass shit that taste like paper. This blog chronicles my attempts at making foods, as well as some of the rad vegetarian-friendly places I eat at. Word.

Fake Meat Review

I’ve been a vegetarian for nearly 13 years now and for people who are just starting up (or have been vegetarian within the last four years), it’s much easier. When I started, there was only Gardenburger and Morningstar Mini Corn Dogs, needless to say, I have trouble eating either one. In fact, if I remember correctly, the bulk of my first year as a vegetarian was spent eating cheese pizza and fries (btw, not all fries are vegetarian friendly). These days, you have an array of different fake meats and faux meat products like seitan (a gluten substitute) and tempeh (soybeans and other crap) are widely available. Even with the demise of my favorite fake meat ever, Veat, seitan serves as a good substitute. There’s also tofu and what not too. Here’s a list of what I personally use: 1. Yves Ground Meat Whenever I go to Trader Joe’s, I buy this in bulk. It’s cheaper there than at other grocery stores and I can make a variety of different dishes with this shiz. 2. Seitan I usually have to go to smaller chains or co-ops for this, but it’s worth it. It’s about a dollar more than Yves, but it lasts just as long. It’s also versatile. 3. Trader Joe’s Brand Fake Seasoned Chicken I typically use this for fajitas or vegan tuna. 4. Morningstar “Bacon” It’s the closest proximity to real bacon of all the fake meat. 5. Morningstar Grillers/Boca “American Style” These are the best microwaveable patties ever.
