About

I love food and cooking and I find it extremely difficult to find vegetarian food that isn't wack ass shit that taste like paper. This blog chronicles my attempts at making foods, as well as some of the rad vegetarian-friendly places I eat at. Word.

Zak’s (Ballard)

Last night, Michelle and I went to Zak’s in the neighborhood I call home (and what she calls the suburbs even though it’s in the city proper), Ballard.  Located on Market and next to Cupcake Royale, Zak’s specializes in burgers and shakes.  Despite their rasta-colored sign and licence plate decor (it reminded me of the formerly great restaurant California Burger in Lynnwood), it was actually really great.

The staff was excellent and accommodating (they let us stay past closing because we ordered 30 minutes before they locked up) and pretty funny.

The food itself was excellent. I think what made Zak’s stand out for me was the fact that they serve fry sauce. I ordered the vegetarian spicy black bean burger, while Michelle had the standard cheeseburger. I wish I took pictures, but I was so hungry that I just ate. We both bought the combo which included burger, fries and a drink which cost $8.35, which is a steal in my opinion (our other favorite burger place, King’s Hardware, charges a little bit more than that for just the burger and fries alone).

I think my only complaint is that the fries were okay. They were great with the fry sauce, but on their own, they reminded me of Jack in the Box’s fries before they changed to the “Natural Cut” style.

That being said, for the burger alone, you definitely get your money’s worth and then some, which put’s Zak’s on my favorite burger in Seattle list.
